I’m not surprised!

Have you ever noticed in some books when you read them either out loud or in your head, there are some sentences that you always have to add to the original text? It’s like they are written there invisibly.

We have been reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar to Milo before all of his naps these last couple of weeks and whenever we get to the end of the page…

“On Sunday he ate through one piece of chocolate cake, one ice-cream cone, one pickle, one slice of Swiss cheese, one slice of salami, one lollipop, one piece of cherry pie, one sausage, one cupcake, and one slice of watermelon. That night he had a stomachache!”

…we always say “I’m not surprised!”

Today, his grandma popped round for a cup of tea and a cuddle. We all snuggled on the sofa and read his book and sure enough, at the end of that page she said, “Well, I’m not surprised!”

I'm not surprised!

LOL. We just did a story time at the bookshop I work at, and it was The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The person reading it added ‘I’m not surprised’ in the very same place.
