Lauren Child’s writing a Ruby Redfort series – hurrah!

Clarice Bean

The news in The Bookseller today that Lauren Child has signed a deal with HarperCollins to write a Ruby Redfort 6 book series, has excited me lots. I am a huge fan of Lauren’s work. I wrote an essay about her illustrative technique for my Masters and had the pleasure of working at Puffin while she was making The Princess and the Pea.

Lauren says that she sees Ruby Redfort (the undercover girl agent in the Clarice Bean stories) as a young Jodie Foster character, tomboyish, mouthy and funny (that sounds like Jodie Foster in Freaky Friday to me!). Can’t wait until they are launched in 2010.

  1. Love Lauren Child! I do a lesson with her Princess and the Pea book. My kids love it. Even the boys. It’s actually on the schedule for next month’s fairy and folk tale unit! Yay!

It was incredible watching her and Polly work on the tiny little sets. So detailed and hundreds of photos were taken to get the exact right shot. A very different and difficult book to make. Enjoy your unit next month!
